SEC Says Teen Could Be Behind Job’s Health Rumors
Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, did not have a heart attack, according to the SEC.
Apparently, the the source of this news was an 18 year old teenager who made the story up.
The story made the price of Apple shares decrease from $106.50 to $94.65. The firm lost market value of approximately $9 billion.Â
The SEC declined to identify the person who produced the fake story. The commission may not be interested in pressing charges if this was only prank rather than an attempt to profit from the decline in price said Scott Christie with the law firm of McCarter and English. Any motive to profit is still undetermined.
Jobs had pancreatic cancer a few years ago so his health is a concern to some because he kept his condition a secret. His successor has not be named.
Jobs appeared sick and pale during the introduction of the new 3G iPhone at the Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference which took place in June. Some fear that the cancer has returned, and this is a source of concern for the company.
