VeriSign and G&D Form Smartcard Alliance

November 3, 2008

Internet infrastructure and security company VeriSign and Germany-based smartcard solutions provider Giesecke & Devrient, G&D, have announced a smartcard consumer authentication alliance.

G&D’s GDC4000 display card will be combined with VeriSign Identity Protection, VIP, services to provide a unified offering to protect smartcard users’ identities, personal information, and assets. The companies said the card displays a one-time password, which changes with each transaction to ensure every VIP-enabled authentication combines the username and password with OTP generated by the card.

Mike Davies, director of identity and authentication for EMEA at VeriSign, said: “In Germany and throughout the world, consumers need to trust their online transactions and the technologies they rely on to conduct them. With G&D’s respected OATH-based display card and VeriSign’s global VIP authentication network, we’re able to provide an end-to-end solution that keeps customers safe online.”
