Five Studios Tap BayTSP Content Authentication Platform With Digital Fingerprinting to Track Content on Video Hosting Sites

Posted on: Monday, 3 November 2008, 09:00 CST

BayTSP, the leading provider of online intellectual property monitoring, enforcement and measurement services, announced today that five major motion picture studios are using the company's Content Authentication Platform to identify their content on user-generated content (UGC) and other video hosting websites.

CAP scans 1.7 million minutes of video uploaded to UGC sites daily, is continuously tracking view counts and other metadata on 100 million videos and has amassed an index of 1.6 billion minutes of previously uploaded video. In addition to monitoring for copyright infringing content, the system also provides measurement and monetization systems to track viewership and deliver metadata that allows for highly targeted advertising to appear with each video clip.

"We developed CAP to address the unique challenges of monitoring UGC sites like YouTube, DailyMotion and the growing number of Asian sites, like Youku and Tudou in China and Nico Nico Douga in Japan," said BayTSP CEO Mark Ishikawa. "CAP uses multiple audio and video digital fingerprinting technologies to ensure the highest level of accuracy when identifying content."

CAP analyzes video posted to the 12 most popular user generated content hosting sites. Based on viewership data collected by CAP, people have watched more than 1.4 trillion minutes - the equivalent of 2.7 million years - of video posted to UGC sites. Clients can use CAP data to analyze viewership trends and develop and implement strategies for negotiating revenue sharing agreements with the hosting sites.

CAP, launched in 2007, provides content owners with a turnkey solution that incorporates multiple digital fingerprinting and watermarking technologies and allows them to monitor, manage and generate additional revenue when their content appears online. CAP offers content distributors the opportunity to identify copyrighted content and deliver highly targeted advertising.

"Other standalone fingerprinting and watermarking systems are limited to what the UGC sites give them in search results," Ishikawa said. "Our index of 1.6 billion minutes of previously uploaded video, gives our customers valuable insight into past trends on where their content has appeared, how often it has been viewed and who the most prolific uploaders are."

CAP processes video in real time, which is vital to protecting content like live concerts, sports and pay-per-view events, which often appear online the same day of broadcast.
