OpenSpan and Software AG Partner to Extend webMethods Product Suite to Corporate Desktops
OpenSpan, Inc., a leader in desktop productivity and SOA acceleration software, and Software AG, a global leader in business infrastructure software (FRANKFURT: SOW), today announced a partnership designed to extend Software AG's webMethods Product Suite to corporate desktop environments. The partnership enables a wide range of desktop and other legacy applications to participate in Software AG's webMethods Product Suite, streamlining critical processes for business users.
"With the webMethods Product Suite, organizations can build their bridge to SOA and optimize modernization initiatives by extending the value of core systems such as mainframe and server-based applications," said Arnold Huffman, senior vice president, Business Solutions Development, Software AG. "Software AG helps organizations more quickly transform core systems into modern and flexible business applications and processes, all while avoiding costly and risky rip-and-replace strategies. Partnering with OpenSpan allows our SOA value proposition to be extended to the corporate desktop, helping to drive productivity improvements deeper into the enterprise."
The webMethods Product Suite also extends core systems for use in a service-oriented architecture by exposing existing IT assets as new services and enabling core systems to leverage any service. OpenSpan enables virtually any corporate desktop application to consume Web services and allow integration with new applications without having to redevelop the application or modify the source code. Any new service created via the webMethods Product Suite, as well as those developed independently by the customer, can be integrated with existing applications to deliver immediate value.
With OpenSpan, webMethods Product Suite customers can also service-enable a wider range of corporate desktop applications as well as business processes that span multiple applications. OpenSpan's Virtual Broker technology further accelerates the shift towards thin-client computing by enabling corporate desktop applications to be moved off desktops altogether and instead be deployed as a series of services in an optionally virtualized middleware environment.
"In the current economic climate it is imperative that organizations find ways to do more with less--increasing employee productivity and maximizing the investments already made in their existing infrastructure and corporate assets," said Eric Musser, CEO of OpenSpan. "Application modernization is a low-risk way for Global 2000 organizations to get the most out of their existing investments in IT systems, while still providing the new capabilities required to support changing business requirements. We look forward to partnering with Software AG to help organizations improve the effectiveness of their corporate desktop environments."
