Fibernet Corporation to Provide Internet Services Over UTOPIA Fiber-Optic Network
The Utah Telecommunication Open Infrastructure Agency (“UTOPIA”) announced that Fibernet Corp., a diversified Internet service company, has inaugurated services on UTOPIA’s Open Service Provider Model network. Fibernet will provide a full range of Internet services to corporate clients over the network, leveraging the ultra-broadband capacity of UTOPIA’s fiber-optic network.
“We are proud to serve many of the companies that are driving Utah’s resilient economy, and they are hungry for the kind of bandwidth UTOPIA’s fiber-to-the-premises network offers,” said Lee Livingston, Chief Financial Officer of Fibernet. “UTOPIA enables us to cost-effectively provide our customers with virtually unlimited bandwidth over a carrier-class network. This will add significant value to our co-location, web hosting and other Internet services,” he added.
Todd Marriott, CEO of UTOPIA, said “Fibernet’s impressive array of Internet services is a perfect match for UTOPIA’s 100% fiber-optic network. Fibernet has always been a pacesetter in the breadth and quality of their services, and we will be excited to watch how they leverage UTOPIA’s ultra-broadband capacity to the benefit of their customers. This kind of business development highlights some of the benefits the UTOPIA open service provider network provides to its member communities.”
UTOPIA, www.UtopiaNet.org, is a consortium of 16 Utah cities operating a fiber-optic telecommunications network that provides a competitive marketplace for telecommunications services for citizens of member cities. UTOPIA’s Open Service Provider Model provides the physical infrastructure while private sector companies compete to provide internet, voice, video and other services over that infrastructure. UTOPIA is also the only network in Utah that connects customers’ homes and businesses directly to fiber-optic lines with no copper or wireless connections. This allows Internet, voice and video signals to travel at the speed of light directly to and from the premises, offering speed and bandwidth copper and wireless networks cannot provide.
