Ecos Partners With California Clean Tech Open

Posted on: Tuesday, 4 November 2008, 18:00 CST

Ecos, a specialist in energy efficiency and climate and sustainability solutions, joins environmental industry leaders such as the Natural Resources Defense Council and CleanEdge as a competition partner for the 2008 California Clean Tech Open.

An annual gala event, the Clean Tech Open will be presenting six organizations with a $100,000 "startup in a box" prize package to help them launch their companies. Prizes are awarded based on contestants' business plan submissions.

"Ecos is pleased to be a competition partner for the Clean Tech Open, joining an all-star group of entrepreneurs and sponsors as part of the nation's most prestigious clean tech business plan competition," says Jonathan Livingston, vice president of Product and Service Innovation for Ecos. "Once again, the CTO is demonstrating its tremendous value in elevating and supporting the best new businesses in this space. This recognition will become increasingly valuable when the Clean Tech Open expands beyond California next year."

The California Clean Tech Open will be awarding prizes in six categories: air, water and waste; energy efficiency; green building; renewables; smart power; and transportation. The event, to be held November 6 in San Francisco at the Palace of Fine Arts, also will showcase an exhibition of the 43 2008 finalists' technologies.

Clean Tech Open comprises a network of corporations, venture and angel capital firms, entrepreneurs, inventors, business professionals, universities, national and private labs, and governmental agencies. Over 400 volunteers serve on its behalf. The organization acts as a catalyst, providing the infrastructure and processes to develop and motivate entrepreneurs and early stage companies that are creating clean, environmentally sustainable technologies.

Ecos has over a decade of experience in developing specifications for energy-efficient PCs, set-top boxes, TVs and torchiere lamps, and also has developed and implemented utility-funded programs designed to provide incentives to consumers to purchase these types of energy-efficient products. In addition, Ecos is the developer and administer of the 80 PLUS program - an innovative, electric utility-funded incentive program to integrate more energy-efficient power supplies into desktop computers and servers. The 80 PLUS performance specification requires multi-output power supplies in computers and servers to be 80% or greater energy efficient at 20%, 50% and 100% of rated load. This makes an 80 PLUS certified power supply substantially more efficient than typical power supplies and creates a unique market differentiation opportunity for power supply and computer manufacturers.

Ecos (www.ecosconsulting.com) delivers proven results for clients looking to reduce their energy use, manage their carbon emissions or make their operations more environmentally sustainable. With over a decade of experience designing innovative and cost-effective ways to leverage market-based mechanisms for the benefit of the planet, Ecos performs the research, develops the plans and implements the projects that make the most significant impact on the vitality of both its clients and the world.
