Text of report by Ukrainian television TV 5 Kanal on 1 July
[Presenter] Transport Minister Yevhen Chervonenko is to introduce four new heads of Ukraine's railways in a personnel-change blitz today. Their predecessors were sacked simultaneously.
Kharkiv is the first stop on Chervonenko's itinerary. Hryhoriy Boyko will from now on run the Southern Railway. He previously worked for the Odessa Railway. The introduction lasted for 15 minutes, after which the minister headed for Donetsk.
Yevhen Chervonenko tasked the new railway head with tackling the ticket-tout mafia, which becomes especially active in the summer vacation season. He also pledged to fight sabotage of any form or shape.
[Chervonenko] For the first time in history, the heads of the railways were appointed - [changes tack]. Today was the first time I saw him. And I am very glad I did. My deputy minister responsible for railways did this [appointed the new heads] in consultation with his colleagues.
As a minister, I want the appointees, first, to be professionals, second, to be honest people. Then everything will be all right then. The railways will be in excellent shape, as they were under Soviet rule, under [Stalin-era rail minister] Lazar Kahanovych [laughs].
