Obsidian Strategics Adds Longbows to Enhance the Mellanox HPC Advisory Council Cluster Center
Obsidian Strategics(TM), Inc. and Mellanox Technologies (NASDAQ: MLNX; TASE: MLNX) jointly announced today that Obsidian has contributed product into the Mellanox HPC Advisory Council Cluster Center in Santa Clara, California, a facility available to end-users wishing to evaluate InfiniBand systems for performance and interoperability. InfiniBand started as a short-range network technology, but Obsidian's Longbow devices extend InfiniBand traffic over global wide area networks - seamlessly and very efficiently. The Longbow X series devices installed in Santa Clara provide a latency emulation mode that allows users to accurately simulate InfiniBand traffic moving between arbitrarily remote InfiniBand-powered data centers.
"Longbow technology provides a way to project InfiniBand's bandwidth efficiency and latency advantages out of the data center," noted Dr. David Southwell, President of Obsidian Strategics. "Applications such as data replication for disaster tolerance, data center expansion, bulk media transport, remote visualization, accelerated algorithmic trading and high performance storage area networking can all be accelerated through Longbow technology but often benefit from system-level characterization and sometimes optimization. The Mellanox HPC Advisory Council Cluster Center now presents an opportunity for these exciting new value propositions to be painlessly evaluated, without the expense, delay and inconvenience of sourcing physical 10 Gigabits/s optical network paths.""We welcome the addition of Longbow technology into our Cluster Center," said Sash Sunkara, Vice President of Marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "Obsidian's range-extension, routing and encryption technologies complement and enhance Mellanox's industry-leading adapter and switch solutions, which can now be leveraged in many new and important application spaces."
It was also announced that Obsidian has joined Mellanox's Marketing Alliance Program (MAP) and High Performance Computing (HPC) Advisory Council. Information on these Mellanox initiatives can be found at: www.mellanox.com and http://hpcadvisorycouncil.mellanox.com
About Obsidian Strategics Inc.
Obsidian Strategics is the developer of Longbow, a series of InfiniBand products featuring range extension, routing and encryption. Longbow technology allows an InfiniBand fabric, normally a short-range network used in high-performance computing, to be extended via optical fiber over varying distances. Longbow connects across Campus, Metro or Global networks to offer unparalleled high-bandwidth, low-latency access to InfiniBand compute and storage resources. About the HPC Advisory Council
The HPC Advisory Council is a distinguished high-performance computing ecosystem that includes best-in-class original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), strategic technology suppliers, independent software vendors (ISVs) and selected end-users across the entire range of HPC market segments. The Council was formed to accelerate HPC innovations and new technologies, optimize system performance, efficiency and scalability and provide the best total solution to the end-user. The Council also operates an end-user advisory help desk to provide a centralized place for end-users' HPC-related questions, such as troubleshooting, system design and usage model advisory for overall system performance optimization.
The HPC Advisory Council Cluster Center offers an environment for developing, testing, benchmarking and optimizing products based on leading-edge multi-core systems and the latest 40Gb/s InfiniBand technology. More info can be found at www.hpcadvisorycouncil.mellanox.com.
