July 1, 2005

Jul. 1–TOKYO — Oki Electric Industry Co. said Friday the Indian branch office of its Singaporean subsidiary began operations the same day to promote customer service and marketing activities for its semiconductor business.

The branch of Oki Semiconductor Singapore Pte., located in the southwestern Indian city of Bangalore, known as the center of India’s information technology industry, is the Oki group’s first semiconductor business office in India.

With the office, established last March, the Oki group hopes to boost semiconductor sales in the Indian market threefold in fiscal 2007, which ends in March 2008, from the fiscal 2004 level.

The new branch will identify the needs of potential customers and provide products that suit the Indian market, the company said.

Oki Electric has been expanding its sales in India of large-scale integration chips for network equipment, mobile phone ringer tones and other products.
