Initial coursework for the new degree program will begin in January 2009, and enrollment is currently taking place. Interested doctoral candidates may obtain additional information and connect to a University of Phoenix doctoral representative by calling (602) 387-6844 or visiting http://doctoral.phoenix.edu.

Industrial-organizational psychologists apply psychology principles to improve productivity and quality of work life in the workplace. They are highly sought after for their psychology research, consulting and academic instructional expertise by organizations as diverse as think tanks, small business and industry; to government, the military and Fortune 500 companies. The University's doctoral degree will prepare professionals for multi-faceted careers in areas that include human resources management, organizational development, employee issues, training, labor relations and other leadership positions.

"This program is unique from our other doctoral programs in that it is a master's/Ph.D. combination program; there is no master's prerequisite," said Irene Blundell, director of public relations, School of Advanced Studies, University of Phoenix. "We designed the program to adhere to rigorous guidelines established by the Society of Industrial/Organizational Psychology (SIOP), but with a majority of the program delivered in an online, virtual classroom setting."

Blundell notes that, as with all University of Phoenix doctoral programs, the Industrial/Organizational Psychology program is leadership-focused. The mission of the 98-credit program is to develop leaders who positively influence the effectiveness of industrial/organizational settings through application of theory, research, assessment, evaluation and intervention. While the degree program is primarily online, doctoral learners will be required to attend residency sessions, which provide face-to-face opportunities to network on a global level.

The School of Advanced Studies' highest priority is preparing its graduates to step into leadership roles and make meaningful contributions to the growth and development of their communities. The program's innovative scholar-practitioner-leader model enables students to integrate course content into their personal and professional lives and gives them a foundation for making data-driven decisions.

University of Phoenix' doctoral program was originally founded in 1998, when the Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership degree was first offered. The School of Advanced Studies was established in 2002 and expanded the program to nine doctoral offerings, including its second Ph.D. program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Since that time, University of Phoenix has provided doctoral-level programs for more than 6,000 learners.
