SemantiNet Announces Support for Yahoo! Fire Eagle and Yahoo! Search BOSS
Ltd. – a pioneer in the development of cutting-edge Semantic technology -
today announced that its acclaimed headup(TM) Semantic Web plugin now supports
the new Fire Eagle(TM) and BOSS (Build your Own Search Service) technologies
from Yahoo!.
Both Fire Eagle and BOSS join SemantiNet’s already comprehensive support
for the leading Yahoo! properties, including Flickr(R), Upcoming(TM) and
Delicious(TM). Through headup, users can now experience a rich new method for
experiencing many of Yahoo!’s technology advances, as well as the power of
Semantic Web technology in a single solution.
Fire Eagle is a Yahoo!-owned service that acts as a ‘clearinghouse’ for a
user’s physical location information. Other services and applications can
update or access this information via the Fire Eagle API, having first
obtained the user’s permission. SemantiNet’s headup is considered by Yahoo! to
be a leading example for Fire Eagle integration. Yahoo! has a video
demonstrating headup’s support for the Fire Eagle Geolocation technology on
the main Fire Eagle site at http://fireeagle.yahoo.net/.
BOSS is Yahoo!’s open search web services platform. Developers, start-
ups, and large Internet companies can use BOSS to build and launch web-scale
search products that utilize the Yahoo! Search infrastructure.
headup – announced to wide acclaim at the Jupiter(R) Web 3.0 conference in
October – is a new plugin for the Mozilla(R) Firefox(R) Web browser that
enables true semantic capabilities for the first time within any Web page.
headup data is displayed fully in context on the existing page, and can be
opened unobtrusively via a displayed ‘+’ symbol next to the relevant content.
headup’s semantic engine retrieves personalized, meaningful information in
real-time about the data that specifically interests the individual user.
With this information, headup can seamlessly and contextually ‘understand’ how
dispersed data across the Web is related, and connect it in real time, thereby
alerting the user via a ‘+’ symbol that there is additional information that
is of interest. User privacy is fully maintained and headup is available for
both the Microsoft(R) Windows(R) and Apple(R) OS X(R) Operating Systems.
“SemantiNet is very fortunate to have an extremely close relationship with
Yahoo! and they have been a superb partner for us,” said
SemantiNet. “The Yahoo! APIs allow us seamless access to their most cutting-
edge new technologies such as Fire Eagle and BOSS – Yahoo!’s unmatched support
has enabled us to leverage their platform to make headup an even greater
success and resource for our users.”
headup is available immediately for beta test – interested users can
