Posted on: Tuesday, 9 December 2008, 08:42 CST

CHARLOTTE, N.C. and PULASKI, Va., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Conterra Telecom Services, a national provider of high speed, high capacity broadband transport services, primarily in suburban and rural market areas, today announced the completion of the Pulaski County, Virginia Schools wide area network. Seven schools and the school board offices were included in the first phase of the project with an eighth being connected when the new Riverlawn elementary school is complete. A portion of the funding for the new network services will be offset by the federal E-Rate program for schools and libraries which is part of the Universal Service fund.

Conterra's state-of-the-art, digital network will allow Pulaski County public schools to access distance learning, video security and Internet services at substantially higher levels of speed and quality than previous telecommunications connections and will be one of the most advanced telecom networks in Southwest Virginia.

The Pulaski educational network is Conterra's 94th wide area network deployed in 16 states. "We are happy to partner with Pulaski County Schools to bring one of the most advanced wide area broadband networks in Virginia to Pulaski County," said Jason Adkins, Senior Vice President for Conterra. Conterra provides similar, E-rate telecom services in Sussex, Essex, Bedford, and Campbell County school districts in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
