MAYNARD, Mass., Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ — Stratus Technologies’ year-long Webinar series, “Taming the Hydra: Issues Impacting Business Continuity,” recently concluded with more than 130 technologists from 25 countries listening to a Yankee Group executive unravel the layers of complexity around disaster recovery planning, Stratus announced today.

Yankee Group Senior Vice President Zeus Kerravala closed the eight-part series with a presentation titled “Disaster Recovery in a Business Continuity Strategy.” Kerravala discussed how to place disaster recovery planning in the broader context of business continuity strategies. He also broke down the elements of disaster recovery planning and described how the IT community handles this key aspect of business continuity. Kerravala’s session and the seven other Hydra Series presentations are available at no charge at the Stratus archive site. In addition to Kerravala’s session, visitors can find sessions on:

  • virtualization’s role in application availability;
  • choosing the right server platforms and supporting technologies;
  • designing data centers that resist downtime and recover quickly; and
  • balancing business continuity needs and shrinking budgets.

Even though IT budgets are shrinking, business continuity is a growing priority as companies rely more heavily on their applications to generate revenue. Stratus created the Hydra series in March as part of a broad campaign to help IT staffs develop realistic business continuity and application availability strategies.

“We envisioned the Hydra Series as a place where IT staffs could go for advice on maintaining high levels of application availability,” said Sue Lawrence-Longo, Stratus vice president, worldwide marketing. “The analysts did a great job of laying out the issues objectively. Based on audience questions asked during the webinars, we anticipate many IT organizations will take advantage of their insights.”
