St. Michael Strategies Announces the Completion of a Record Number of Traffic Counting System Installations in 2008

MONTREAL, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- SMS announces completion of a record number of traffic counting system installations in 2008.

SMS is pleased to announce the completion of a record number of traffic counter system installs for the second year in a row. David Di Cristo, SMS Executive V.P., attributes the sharp rise in installs to a better understanding of what a traffic counting system can do combined with the current economic climate.

"Relatively minor staffing changes to key selling days can have a significant impact on sales," says Di Cristo, "and traffic data provides a more accurate basis for re-allocation of selling staff hours than either sales or transactions."

The majority of the systems are being installed in specialty retail chains that generate high traffic, sell 40% or less of it, and are service sensitive. Apparel, shoes, jewelry, sporting goods, personal care products, and electronics are typical store categories. Most are installing systems in all stores.

Typical of many SMS clients, Cost Plus World Markets reported in November that "customer conversion continued to increase for the third consecutive quarter." Traffic may be down, but a focus on improving conversion rate can offset the impact of fewer people in the stores.
