Bucharest, 4 July: Radiocom Radiocomunicatii Company launched the T-DAB service (Terrestrial - Digital Audio Broadcasting), a digital radio programme broadcasting system, allowing better reception and additional services.
"Romania is the 20th European country to use this system, based on a pilot project of Radiocom, only in Bucharest for the moment," Minister of Communications Zsolt Nagy said on Monday [4 July] on Radio Communications' Day.
At the moment, three public radio broadcasting services: Radio Romania Actualitati, Radio Muzical and Antena Bucurestilor; and two private services: Radio Romantic and ProFM, are broadcasting digitally.
"The pilot project is part of a larger governmental project, worth of 80m dollars, meant to upgrade the entire network owned by the company, including two digital television pilot projects," Radiocom President Mircea Cazan said.
The digital TV broadcasting programme will be launched in autumn in Bucharest.
On the Radio Communications Day, Romfilatelia launched a stamp issue, marking 65 years of uninterrupted presence of Radiocomunicatii in the field of audio-TV broadcasting.
The company posted 60m euros [71.7m dollars] in turnover, and expects a 10-15 per cent increase for 2005.
