New DigitalPersona Solutions Empower Retailers to Combat Fraud and Reclaim Lost Profits

January 7, 2009

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ — DigitalPersona, Inc., the
leader in fingerprint identity solutions, has entered into a partnership with
IBM, embedding DigitalPersona readers within IBM Modular POS keyboards and
making software development kits available for download to POS application
partners. DigitalPersona has also extended its leadership in the biometric
retail space with the release of the U.are.U(R) 4500HD Heavy Duty Fingerprint
Reader. With these new offerings, retailers can cut the risk of fraudulent
activities, accelerate return-on-investment (ROI) and recapture substantial
losses from payroll fraud, false voids and unauthorized discounts.

“A growing number of retailers are adopting biometrics into their
businesses,” said Jim Black, senior I/T specialist at IBM. “Particularly in
tough economic times, our retailer customers are finding that integrated
fingerprint solutions are a compelling way to increase potential profits and
accountability across the organization. Fingerprints are a practical, easy-
to-deploy means to closely monitor the business environment and to deter
fraud. DigitalPersona fingerprint readers and software development kits are
an integral part of the IBM POS solution.”

More than 90 percent of biometric-POS manufacturers and many of the
leading retail ISVs use DigitalPersona solutions. With DigitalPersona hardware
and software, retailers are able to replace keys, swipe cards and PINs with
fingerprint authentication to ensure only authorized users gain access to POS
terminals. By tying transactions to the specific people who perform them,
retailers are able to know for sure who is doing what, where, and when.

“With today’s challenging economy, retailers are faced with more internal
and external fraud than ever, causing both loss of revenue and increased
costs,” said Jim Fulton, vice president of marketing at DigitalPersona. “By
employing DigitalPersona fingerprint biometrics on POS terminals, retailers
can immediately deter fraud, boost accountability and provide greater
efficiencies in auditing and compliance.”

New Offering for Retailers and Solution Providers

The most recent addition to the DigitalPersona family of state-of-the-art
fingerprint readers is the U.are.U 4500HD Reader. This heavy-duty,
ergonomically-designed fingerprint reader offers unequaled accuracy and
performance for hard-to-read fingerprints and is resistant to physical and
chemical abuse in harsh or heavily-used commercial environments.

DigitalPersona has also expanded its suite of Software Development Kits
(SDKs) that make integrating fingerprint biometrics into retail applications
fast and easy. The new One Touch(R) for Windows SDK includes support for .NET
and other environments, enabling biometric POS applications to be delivered on
wide range of platforms. For IBM POS application developers, DigitalPersona
provides a dedicated Web page,
http://www.digitalpersona.com/ibm/sdkdownload.php, for downloading SDK
software, free of charge.
