Jackson-based Business Communications Inc., bucks economic trend, earns prestigious recognition.

JACKSON, Miss., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ — In the midst of difficult economic times, Business Communications, Inc. (BCI) has achieved substantial growth, culminating with their inclusion in Inc. magazine’s 2008 list of the fastest growing private companies in America.

“Being named to this prestigious list is truly an honor,” said BCI president Tom Hinds. “More than anything, this is a recognition that speaks to the hard work, dedication, innovation, and determination of everyone who works for BCI.”

The firm appears as the 2,986th company on the list of 5,000, placing them within an impressive array of companies that includes technology giants Microsoft and Oracle.

A tribute to BCI team members

BCI, founded in 1993 during the formative years of the information technology movement, has grown and prospered by offering customer-focused communications solutions and maintaining a happy, highly capable staff.

“We’ve always focused on employees’ personal growth and well-being, in addition to their professional performance,” said Hinds. “We are a growing, highly competitive business, but we’re also a family.”

This operating philosophy has led to BCI being a two-time finalist and a 2008 winner of the Mississippi Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” program.

“As difficult as building a successful business may seem, it is, at its core, really very simple,” said Hinds. “Find innovative and motivated people, and then give them the tools, training, and encouragement to achieve.”

Given BCI’s track record, few could argue with this approach.

Regional IT Powerhouse

Since 1993, BCI has expanded from its original location in Jackson, Mississippi, to now include offices in Gulfport, Birmingham, Mobile, Little Rock, Memphis, Shreveport, and New Orleans. In total, the company employs 180 people and serves more than 3,000 customers, including universities, medical centers, government entities, financial institutions, manufacturers, and retail outlets of all sizes.

In an environment where many communications and technology companies grew quickly and then faded just as fast, BCI’s business model has proved both robust and level-headed.

“We wanted to make sure that we grew, but didn’t grow too fast and overextend ourselves,” said Hinds. “Basically, as we have continued to expand our geographic reach and customer base, we remained committed to the principles which have served us so well.”

The company’s geographic footprint now places BCI as a key communications partner of venerable and important institutions and companies across the Southeast. As overall economic activity in the region continues to expand, BCI is cautiously optimistic about future growth prospects.

“The economy is definitely soft right now, but we are confident in a cyclical upturn,” said Hinds. “The Southeast is one of the fastest-growing regions of the country. Once the economy levels out, we expect more companies will want to expand, relocate, or start-up. And we’ll be ready to serve them when they do.”
