Upgrading IT Infrastructure Slashed Maintenance Costs and Simplified Administrative Tasks
As the largest private owner of freestanding veterinary hospitals in
In order to better manage its business and streamline its costs, National Veterinary Associates decided to design and implement a new IT infrastructure around Wyse thin clients that would allow them to provide better, more affordable IT service to its chain of veterinary hospitals. Each practice is equipped with a server, Wyse thin clients and a local SQL Server database that updates NVA's SQL Server nightly to support data aggregation and reporting.
Each server uses the remote desktop protocol (RDP) to send desktop images to Wyse thin clients running Wyse Thin OS. The National Veterinary Associates thin computing solution includes 1,200 Wyse 1200LE, Wyse S10, and Wyse V10L thin client devices. At NVA headquarters, robust servers with backup power supplies run Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange e-mail, and Microsoft SQL Server, which hosts accounting and general ledger applications. A Citrix server serves virtual desktops to staff working on thin clients at the corporate offices and to doctors accessing their desktops over the Internet.
"We received a terrific return on our investment by using Wyse Technology thin computing solutions: in time saved, maintenance minimized, upgrades made incredibly easy and hardware that lasts forever," said
Now each practice benefits from an improved user experience. Veterinary staff can log in to any thin client in the office to instantly access patient information from their own desktop. The Wyse infrastructure has also improved the process of integrating new practices, enabling IT staff to get new systems up-and-running over a weekend and minimizing staff disruptions.
"Managing the IT needs of a company can be time-consuming for any IT department. Multiply that by more than 100 locations and it can be a logistical nightmare," said
