SUN Microsystems is optimistic that its utility computing business model will take off successfully in the Asia-Pacific region, based on the response thus far.

Its director of infrastructure solutions Asia-Pacific K.P. Naidu said there have been keen interest from existing and potential customers since the new business model was launched last April.

According to him, the enterprise market, especially financial services, will continue to be a major focus area for Sun’s utility computing business, as well as the small and medium-sized enterprises.

Naidu said Sun’s utility computing business model consists of a host of options that give businesses the power to manage and control information technology costs.

He added that the company creates an infrastructure based on customer demand consisting of software, hardware and other services which are on a pay-per-use basis.
