Fourth Multicore Expo U.S. Set for March 16-19 in Santa Clara

January 28, 2009

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Multicore Expo, the premier forum devoted to the multicore technologies that are transforming the embedded computing industry, announced today that the fourth annual event will take place March 16 through 19 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. The Multicore Expo will expand this year to represent the application of multicore technology to multimedia and embedded graphics used in mobile and consumer devices.

This four day program will include executive and engineering keynotes, panel discussions, in-depth technical presentations, and case studies covering a wide range of topics related to multicore, multimedia, and embedded graphics. The official conference, which begins on March 17, will address a wide variety of topics that encompass techniques for parallel programming and debug, operating systems, virtualization technology, graphics for mobile devices, SoC design including interconnect technologies, multicore technology in networking and telecommunications applications, and the understanding of manycore versus multicore, to name just a few. Furthermore, several participating companies will launch new products during the Multicore Expo.

Pre-conference activities begin on March 16, with sessions and tutorials from the Multicore Association (www.multicore-association.org) and the Khronos Group (www.khronos.org). From 1-5pm, each of the Multicore Association’s technical working groups will host meetings that will be open for non-member conference attendees. Also from 1-5pm, the Khronos Group will conduct a developer’s tutorial focused on its OpenCL (Open Computing Language) and the handheld API ecosystem for accelerating 2D and 3D graphics.

A two-day program of exhibits and demonstrations, from March 17-18, will provide attendees with the opportunity to see multicore technology in action as well as network with leading experts in multicore hardware and software implementations.

“As multicore implementations proliferate in a wide range of applications, the challenges associated with programming, debug, and optimization are making Multicore Expo more important than ever as a forum in which the key issues of the multicore ecosystem can be raised, debated, and solved,” said Markus Levy, Multicore Expo conference chair. “Furthermore, we’ve expanded the scope of Multicore Expo due to the increased use of multicore technology in embedded graphics and multimedia.”

The Platinum sponsors for this year’s event are Freescale Semiconductor, Imagination Technologies, and Wind River. Gold sponsors include CriticalBlue and Sun Microsystems. Silver sponsors include 6WIND, ARM, Enea, eSOL, LynuxWorks, MIPS, Sonics, Synopsys, and Target Compiler Technologies. Industry sponsors include the Multicore Association, the Khronos Group, and EEMBC, the Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium.

“Imagination is excited to be a Platinum sponsor and delivering an executive keynote at Multicore Expo, the increasingly influential event for embedded multicore, multimedia, and graphics technology,” said Tony King-Smith, VP marketing of Imagination Technologies. “Across our keynote and technical sessions at Multicore Expo we shall be exploring why highly-scalable graphics and video technologies are key to the future of the industry and require multicore capabilities.”

“Bringing the industry together in a collaborative forum such as Multicore Expo is a critical step to addressing the problems associated with enabling software for multicore processors,” said Marc Brown, vice president of VxWorks marketing at Wind River. “It will take broad industry collaboration and technology investments to move the industry forward and to help companies realize the performance benefits of multicore.”

Multicore Expo registration is now open at http://www.multicore-expo.com and available at a 30% early-bird discount off the regular $695 price through February 20. Full-time faculty members and students enjoy an additional 35-50% discount.
