Educational Video Gaming is Taking Texas by Storm: Garland, Ft. Worth and Lamar Districts Adopt DimensionM(TM) Software

Award-winning educational video games from Tabula Digita are resource for struggling math students and response to intervention programs

NEW YORK, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Three more Texas school districts are adding Tabula Digita's DimensionM(TM) immersive educational video games as supplements to their middle and high curricula to better engage students and increase their achievement in math. The districts are Garland Independent School District near Dallas, Ft. Worth Independent School District, and Lamar Consolidated Independent School District in the Houston area.

Designed to teach and reinforce key algebraic concepts, the DimensionM instructional software engages students in a series of first-person action adventure missions that incorporate three-dimensional graphics, sound, animation and storylines comparable to those in popular video games. By successfully navigating a myriad of embedded elementary, middle, and high school level math and algebra lessons, students quickly master the math concepts previously discussed in class. This helps to simplify the complexities of math by presenting them in a format - video games -- that today's students understand.

As their foray into educational video gaming, the Garland and Lamar school districts will implement DimensionM in middle and junior high schools. Ft. Worth will be providing the games in its high schools. Other Texas school districts currently using DimensionM include Carrolton-Farmers Branch, Spring ISD (outside Houston), and Plano ISD.

Said Hedwig Pettinger, Garland's coordinator of technology for middle schools, "We are always looking for creative student-centered ways to strengthen achievement in math, and our students took to these games like the media-savvy digital natives they are. They come to class, get started and are fully engaged throughout the period. As the time approaches to leave, students actually beg for additional class time!"

Building on the perception of the gaming software as a "fun challenge," Tabula Digita is working on plans for a DimensionM competition between Garland and New York City Schools in late spring. Garland is also planning to conduct its own internal district tournament at the end of the 2008-09 school year.
