Wilson Center Launches OnDemand

WASHINGTON, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars recently launched Wilson Center OnDemand (wilsoncenter.org/ondemand), the online home to all of the Center's audio and video programming. For the first time, webcasts of Wilson Center events are presented on one user-friendly site alongside Director Lee Hamilton's biweekly Commentaries on foreign policy and on Congress; the Director's Forum series, featuring high-level dignitaries; and dialogue, the Center's radio and television program, hosted by George Liston Seay. Since its inception in 1968, the Woodrow Wilson Center has been a nonpartisan forum bridging the gap between scholars and policymakers. OnDemand is this forum's gateway for a global audience to experience all of the Center's events, past and present.

OnDemand showcases the wide array of the Wilson Center's programming. In the last month, Lee Hamilton's Commentaries have covered topics from U.S. relations with Pakistan to the United States' role in the global economy, as well as challenges facing the presidential transition in Washington. On dialogue, Stanford's Paul Ehrlich has warned of humans' destructive impact on the planet, and USA Today correspondent Joan Biskupic has discussed Supreme Court vacancies that will arise during the next presidency. In 2008, the Center's Director's Forum series hosted dignitaries from six continents, including President Elias Antonio Saca of El Salvador and President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan. The Director's Forum series also features domestic figures; Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff delivered his 2007 Year in Review at the Center, and President-elect Barack Obama gave a major foreign policy address during his presidential campaign.

The Wilson Center hosts more than 700 events each year, including 500 hours of events webcast on wilsoncenter.org. All webcast events are now available on OnDemand alongside their summaries, transcripts, and related media, recreating the complete experience of the event. Together, these resources combine to make educational, nonpartisan primers on the important issues covered in the Center's programming.

At Wilson Center OnDemand, you can browse audio and video by topic, region, date, and speaker to pinpoint the content you are looking for. Click on a video, and OnDemand will generate a short list of related media that may interest you as well. The "ShareThis" function integrates the Center's programming with social networking sites such as Facebook and Digg. Meanwhile, the OnDemand home page constantly updates to highlight content related to the day's news in national and international affairs.
