CHICAGO, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ — In honor of Black History Month,
OurBlackHeritage.com is celebrating the accomplishments of black history
makers everywhere. Featured artifacts include a chair once owned by Abraham
Lincoln’s
law firm, Lincoln & Herndon, and an exceptionally rare religious
book signed by Samuel Harrison who won equal pay for African-Americans serving
in the Union Army. He served as the Chaplain of the famed 54th Massachusetts
Regiment during the Civil War, which was the first all black infantry to fight
in the Civil War. The exploits of this heroic unit and its substantial
suffering and casualties were portrayed in the movie “Glory.”

The goal of OurBlackHeritage.com is to replace ignorance and prejudice
with knowledge and understanding by making visible and accessible – the real
unsanitized history of the African-American family.

With the historic Inauguration of the 44th president, Barack Obama; the
centennial celebration of the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP) and the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth; we are
collectively seeing the realization of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s Dream for
our nation.

“Black History is American History. This is an important time to reflect
on the lives and contributions of African-Americans,” said Jeffery M. Leving,
founder of OurBlackHeritage.com. “We commemorate the long historic journey of
African-Americans toward a full measure of civil rights.”
