Lucent's Metropolis(R) ADM Multiplexer Helps Qingdao Netcom to Increase Capacity, Reliability and Scalability for Its Lucent-Supplied Optical Transmission Network
Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced that it has won a $1.2 million contract to supply Qingdao Netcom, a subsidiary of China Netcom, with Lucent's Metropolis(R) ADM Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP). The contract marks another significant win with Qingdao Netcom since last year's optical transmission contract, laying a solid foundation for Lucent to assist Qingdao Netcom with the future development of its next-generation network.
Qingdao Netcom's optical transmission network expansion project is part of China Netcom's Intelligent Network Project, aiming to alleviate network congestion. When operational in July, Qingdao Netcom's network will be able to meet the growing demands for higher network capacity, reliability and scalability, and to offer new revenue-generating data services including Gigabit Ethernet.
Lucent will also provide the spares to support previously installed Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems and multiplexers, including Metropolis(R) EON, WaveStar(R) TDM 10G, WaveStar(R) ADM 16/1, and WaveStar(R) 1.6T.
"Backed by Bell Labs innovations, Lucent led the optical market worldwide for over half a century. Today's announcement is another demonstration of our strong competitive edge in the fast growing China market, as well as our strategic partnership with leading service providers in China," said Norman Lam, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Lucent Technologies China.
The Metropolis(R) ADM MSTP is part of the Lucent's Metropolis(R) family of metro optical offerings designed to eliminate bottlenecks in existing metro networks, which allows service providers to deliver new high-speed, revenue-generating services such as Gigabit Ethernet, Virtual Private Networks (VPN), Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL). By supporting Ethernet and TDM services on a single platform, Metropolis(R) ADM helps reduce the need for overlay networks. Its unique self-aware network element and fast recovery capability can help customers to reduce cost, to enhance operation and maintenance performance, and to create additional revenue generating opportunities.
