Kontron and Astute Networks to Showcase Streaming Video Demonstration at GSMA Mobile World Congress Exhibition

Posted on: Monday, 16 February 2009, 03:00 CST

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ --

WHAT: Kontron and Astute Networks Streaming Video Demonstration WHEN: February 16 - 19, 2009 WHERE: Kontron Booth #2.1B14 GSMA Mobile World Congress Exhibition, Barcelona, Spain

DETAILS:

Kontron, a leading global provider of embedded and open modular solutions, and Astute Networks, Inc., the leading provider of bladed storage solutions optimized for the most demanding applications on the edge of the network, will be presenting a streaming video "read/write" benchmark demonstration at the GSMA Mobile World Congress exhibition in Barcelona, Spain, Feb. 16-19, 2009. The demo is aimed at telecom and network equipment providers (TEMs/NEPs) interested in content delivery solutions utilizing AdvancedTCA(R) (ATCA) technology. The demo will be displayed in Kontron's booth #2.1B14.

The streaming video will feature the Kontron OM9020, a 2U, two-slot ATCA platform, the Astute Networks Caspian R1100 Edge Storage Blade and the Kontron AT8030 ATCA Intel(R) based 10GbE node server. The content delivery solution can achieve performance figures of 68K read I/Os per second configured with 375 MB per second read, and 62K write I/Os per second configured with 360 MB per second write using large-block transfers. In comparison, a standard dual processor ATCA server can only attain 15K I/Os per second at 80 MB per second. Conversely, the Kontron AT8030 ATCA 10GbE server node is designed with three Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo processors, each of which is an independent diskless server with its own dedicated memory.

The combined Kontron and Astute Networks solution provides iSCSI over 10GbE support and 1.5 TB of RAID 5 protected storage, capable of sharing 300 standard-definition movies across a large number of subscribers. Even more interesting to TEMs and NEPs is that this two-bladed platform offering can easily scale up to a redundant 14-slot ATCA platform that supports 1,800 movies within 9 TB of storage deployable for central office environments. Any similar proprietary configuration would require nearly three times the space and power.
