Circus Mashimus Mashup Contest Comes to SXSW Interactive 2009

- Mashery To Host API Mashup Contest and Lounge at SXSW Interactive Festival

- Company will give away a MacBook Pro and several 42" flat screen TVs, among other prizes

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Mashery today said it will host its inaugural Circus Mashimus mashup contest and lounge at the SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin, Tx., March 14-15. Circus Mashimus brings an ecosystem of companies that have opened their content and services through APIs (application programming interfaces) together with attending SXSW developers to compete for prizes by creating the best mashup. Participating SXSW Interactive developers will have access to API provided by Best Buy, NYTimes.com, Ribbit and Billboard.

"Some of the biggest names in business have opened their content to the outside world," said Oren Michels, co-founder and CEO of Mashery. "We're giving the development community an opportunity to turn those APIs into exciting mashups that could create new opportunities for themselves, as well as the participating companies."

Increasing numbers of large, global brands are building on top of Mashery's cloud-based API management platform to expand their online footprint. The company manages APIs for more than 70 companies including some of the biggest and most recognized brands in media (MTV, The New York Times), retail (Best Buy), and travel (Lonely Planet).

Mashery's Circus Mashimus contest is open to all SXSW Interactive attendees. A panel of contest judges will award one Grand Prize for the best overall mashup, which must contain two or more of the participating API Lounge APIs, as well as Best in Show Prizes for each participating Circus Mashimus partner API mashup. Prizes include a MacBook Pro and several 42" televisions.

Mashery's Circus Mashimus contest lounge will be the go-to destination for SXSW Interactive attendees, providing the opportunity to network with friends and colleagues, watch Mashery-powered API demos, complete their contest submission, and get advice from experts. Participants are encouraged to start their mashup early by first registering at the Circus Mashimus website. Contestants can then stop by the Circus Mashimus lounge to demo their mashup for the judges.
