Indiana Nonprofits Received More Than $728,000 in 2008 From the Verizon Foundation to Support Education, Literacy and Domestic Violence Prevention Initiatives

Among the grants awarded by Verizon in 2008 are:
- The Literacy Alliance of
Fort Wayne –$24,000 to expand adult literacy instruction. - NPower
Indiana –$24,000 to provide technology training to nonprofit agencies in the state. - City of
Fort Wayne –$20,000 in cooperation with Net Literacy to provide computers and computer training to youth and communities. - Net Literacy/Senior Connects –
$20,000 to expand computer literacy and Internet access in theTerre Haute /Vigo County area. - Domestic Violence Network of Greater
Indianapolis –$15,000 to support domestic violence prevention education and access to victim resources. - College Mentors for Kids Inc. –
$15,000 to develop curriculum including Verizon’s free educational resource Web site, Thinkfinity.org, for the nonprofit’s mentoring programs. - Boys and Girls Club of Porter County Inc. –
$10,000 to support technology access and training for youth. - Alternatives Inc. of
Madison County –$9,697 to support domestic violence prevention education. Fort Wayne Urban League –$9,673 for the Standards-Based Academic Assistance Program, which supports low-income students in improving learning skills and gaining academic achievement.- Matthew 25 Inc. –
$9,500 to support digital signage for health care and health literacy education.
