Dogster, Inc. Unveils Together Tag Next-Generation Pet ID and Recovery Service; Portion of Proceeds to Benefit American Red Cross Bay Area

Posted on: Monday, 2 March 2009, 10:11 CST

SAN FRANCISCO, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Dogster, Inc., creators of the hugely popular websites Dogster.com and Catster.com, today announces the availability of its Together Tag, a pet ID and recovery service, as part of an emergency preparedness initiative focused on the family pet. The American Red Cross Bay Area will receive a donation of $5 per enrollment to support its pet safety programs, toward a shared goal of raising awareness among pet owners of the steps to take to ensure safety and preparedness in the event of a disaster.

The Together Tag pet ID and recovery service provides a stylish, durable and reflective collar tag which was lab-tested under extreme environmental conditions. The ID tag is linked to a comprehensive pet recovery system backed by a state-of-the-art technology and Dogster's experience as representatives of over a million pets and their owners. A detailed profile of the pet is stored online providing contact information, any specific heath or food requirements and more. If a registered dog or cat is lost, an alert is sent out through the Together Tag system to animal shelters in the area of where the pet was lost through Dogster/Catster's network of over 5,000 shelters nationwide. Additionally, the information on the Together Tag will quickly inform the finder of how to contact the owner and provide any special needs of the pet. A low, one-time Together Tag enrollment fee of $24.95 provides unlimited profile and contact information updating for the life of the dog or cat.

There are many advantages to the Together Tag which reinforce that traditional pet tags and/or microchipping your pet are simply not enough protection.

Tragically, only one in five lost dogs and one in 50 cats are ever returned to their owners. Emergencies hit the Bay Area every day, and the potential for a catastrophic disaster is ever-present. For example, the Red Cross responds to approximately two house fires every single day in the Bay Area alone. Having an emergency plan is essential for all family members, and that certainly includes the family pets.

"People often consider their pets as integral members of their families, and we see this relationship with Dogster, and the Together Tag program, as a valuable opportunity to share information on how people can get their entire families - including their pets - prepared before an emergency or major disaster hits," said Harold Brooks, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross Bay Area.

"We feel that there is so much more that can be done to make sure that pets are easily and safely reunited with their owners during both major emergencies and everyday situations," said Ted Rheingold, Founder of Dogster. "We are confident that the Together Tag pet ID and recovery service will help reduce the chances of disaster-related injury, death and suffering of people and their four-legged friends."
