Bookham Launches 600mW Pump Laser Module in 80% Reduced Package Size

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Bookham, Inc. (Nasdaq: BKHM), a manufacturer of optical components and modules for the telecom industry, has announced the launch of the industry's first ever cooled small form factor, Mini-DIL pump laser module. The new pump module, capable of delivering over 600mW of power, is the most powerful wavelength locked single mode Mini-DIL pump laser available.

The module delivers all the performance and functionality of a 14-Pin Butterfly pump in a package that is 80 percent smaller while also boasting a 10 percent reduction in power consumption. This breakthrough offering enables amplifier designers to reduce the size of low noise EDFAs (Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier), DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) amplifiers, amplifier modules and CaTV amplifiers. The 600mW Mini-DIL module will also be a key component for telecom equipment vendors seeking to lower overall system energy consumption and reduce running costs in the face of rising utility prices and increased environmental pressures.

The module has a wide operating temperature of -20 to +75 degrees, is Telcordia and RoHS compliant, and utilises the same scalable and proven base alignment technology as other Bookham telecom pump lasers, including the 750mW Ultra high power single mode pump laser module, and the OceanBright(TM) submarine pump laser module. The 600mW Mini-DIL pump laser module incorporates the Bookham G08 chip, which has now achieved a combined total of over 300 million field hours.

The 600mW Mini-DIL pump module is available for customer samples immediately, and will reach full qualification by the end of Q1 2009.
