GERMANTOWN, Md., March 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the global leader in broadband satellite networks and services, today announced that the U.S. subsidiary of Telecomunicaciones Bantel C.A., a premier provider of satellite communications in Venezuela for over 18 years, has upgraded to the advanced Hughes HN System platform in providing Ku-band broadband services to Latin American markets. Bantel is operating the powerful HN Network Operations Center (NOC) in Miami, and implementing the full range of the latest Hughes HN7000S, HN7700S, and HN7740S satellite terminals for its growing base of vertical sector customers throughout the region.

"We are very pleased to be providing services to the Caribbean, Central America, and the Andean Region based on Hughes technology," said Ricardo Otaola, president of Bantel. "After evaluating several broadband satellite equipment vendors, we chose Hughes and the HN platform. We believe it allows us to provide the best service quality in the region due to the bandwidth efficiencies provided by features such as IPoS/DVB-S2 with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM)."

The HN System enables Bantel to provide their customers with higher availability, pan-regional coverage and a direct connection to U.S. Internet points of presence (POPs). They are also exploring the possibility of providing video broadcasting services to enterprises, including digital signage applications.

"Bantel is a successful satellite service provider, and their selection of our advanced HN platform confirms its many advantages, particularly the Hughes implementation of the IPoS/DVB-S2 standard with ACM," said Nick Marzella, vice president, International Division, Hughes. "Operating the HN System and terminals yields higher throughputs and up to 50% more efficient bandwidth utilization, giving operators like Bantel a competitive advantage to maximize satellite capacity and contain costs as they grow their business."
