Clickability Connects Global Irish Community With Launch of IrishCentral.com

Posted on: Monday, 16 March 2009, 15:21 CDT

IrishCentral.com Chief Information Officer to Speak at Clickability Webinar 'Surviving to Thriving in Online Publishing' on March 31

SAN FRANCISCO, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Clickability, Inc., the global leader in on demand Web Content Management (WCM), today announced that IrishCentral.com (http://www.irishcentral.com), a new online destination devoted to the global Irish community, has launched its website on the Clickability On Demand Web Content Management Platform (http://www.clickability.com/platform/). The site officially debuted Sunday, March 15 at the prestigious American Irish Historical Society in New York City with Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen "throwing the switch."

As the first website designed for the global Irish community -- an estimated 70 million people -- IrishCentral.com offers readers and advertisers a continually updated, engaging and exciting online resource. The site includes the latest Irish-related business, sports and entertainment news, as well as Irish genealogy, travel, dating and e-commerce services.

After looking at a variety of alternatives, IrishCentral.com selected Clickability's Software as a Service (SaaS) WCM platform to host its dynamic website. According to Joe Pennisi, chief information officer at IrishCentral.com, the company was looking for a platform that would satisfy an aggressive launch schedule and scale effortlessly to meet high traffic demands.

He added, "Clickability has an innovative product, a solid team and a business technology model that is particularly relevant during these tough economic times. SaaS-based Web Content Management eases administration costs and headaches, while being inherently 'green.' We are pleased with the result."

Clickability Is Green

In an effort to reduce emissions, Clickability supports the viability, reliability and sustainability of the green SaaS model. More specifically, Clickability believes that traditional, on-premise software is fundamentally anti-green, based on its slow pace of software innovation and reliance on multiple, redundant, outdated and energy-inefficient hardware.

What's more, Clickability firmly believes that the Four Green Tenets of the SaaS delivery model (http://www.clickability.com/platform/infrastructure/SaaS_is_Green.html) significantly reduce the overall amount of carbon dioxide emissions, while at the same time enabling companies to operate with greater agility, profitability, efficiency and innovation.

Sophisticated, Seamless Partner Integration and Interactive Social Media Features

IrishCentral.com includes a robust selection of content feeds, social media and e-commerce offerings. Implementing the site on the Clickability Platform included integrating content and functionality provided by more than a dozen different companies, including technology partners Pluck (social media), Inform (contextual linkage) and Twistage (video). IrishCentral.com readers are able to discuss, comment on, or rate any article or video on the site. There is also a live streaming webcam from Dublin, special Irish crossword puzzles and Celtic horoscopes, as well as an online store for everything from books to hand-knit sweaters.

IrishCentral.com's social media functionality provides visitors with an opportunity to exchange gossip, opinions and advice on everything from Colin Farrell's latest movie to Bono's latest philanthropic efforts; from stats on Gaelic football to contact information for Irish expats; from where to find a good pint of Guinness in Buenos Aires to suggestions on sightseeing in County Kerry. Visitors can post photos and videos of their visits to Ireland or travels abroad.

"We're extremely proud to enable IrishCentral.com with a technology platform that is flexible and powerful enough to provide the content and services they wanted for their audience," said John Girard, CEO at Clickability. "IrishCentral.com demonstrates that publishers now have new and exciting options for building online businesses."

Special Webinar on Online Publishing

On Tuesday, Mar. 31, 2009 at 11 a.m. PT, CIO Pennisi will participate in a complimentary webinar hosted by Clickability titled "Surviving to Thriving in Online Publishing." Pennisi will be joined by media expert Aiden Colie, former top executive at Time Inc. and Ziff Davis and member of Clickability's Media Board of Advisors. Webinar attendees will learn:

  • How to harness innovation to drive efficiencies and create new revenue;
  • How to spend less but get more value out of their online investments;
  • Why some companies thrive in difficult times while others fail;
  • How to leverage social networks and rich media to increase page views, time on site and unique visitor experiences; and,
  • Why choosing the right technology can mean the difference between surviving and thriving online.
