Currently, most Internet services are based on IPv4 which, due to the Internet's continued rapid growth, is expected to run out of available addresses in the next two to three years.
The panel builds on findings released today by the Internet Society from a study of the operational characteristics of IPv6 among its organization members. Internet Society organization members include various Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Internet Exchange Point Operators, (IXPs), enterprises, national research and education networks (NRENs) and network equipment and software vendors. The study was conducted to gain a better grasp on the need to implement IPv6, the usefulness of IPv6 and to learn about their experience in adopting IPv6.
