Facebook’s New Layout Rubs Users the Wrong Way

Posted on: Friday, 20 March 2009, 06:55 CDT

Facebook's new format is irking the infamously anti-change users of the very popular social network.

Ninety-four percent of the 800,000 Facebookers polled on the website feel that the alterations made in the past two weeks are not welcome at all.

A mere six percent are ok with the redesign.

Blogger Nik McCarthy thinks that the alteration "Pretty much sucks. Better before."

"Bring back the old style," Mark Wysocki demanded. "Hard to navigate," wrote Chanel Chartrand. "Really don't like it."

Dr. Rick Jones, Professor at Stephen F. Austin State University, posted that, "The people who run FB have a protracted case of ADD. Something new comes out on Twitter or MySpace, and FB feels compelled to copy it. FB has no core principles of what a site should be, and couldn't care less what users think, despite their much-trumpeted protestations to the contrary. More importantly, every change of late has not only made the site uglier, harder to navigate, and less responsive to users' needs and desires, but also less concerned with privacy issues. Horrible!"

Modifications to the home page include the "What's on your mind?" question, taking place of the original status update. The alteration is specifically similar to the more real-time Twitter updates, another social network that continues to grow in popularity.

Facebook has more than 175 million members and creator Mark Zuckerberg anticipates that the number will hit 200 million by the end of 2009.
