BEIJING, March 20 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- China's self-organizing game
developing technology conference, CGDC, which is also the country's biggest
and best, is to be held at the Shanghai International Convention Center on
July 24-26. When the first CGDC (China Game Developers Conference) was held in
Shanghai in 2007, more than 50 top technology suppliers across the world
displayed their top-notch technology and products. Dozens of icons of game
developers from the world made it to Shanghai to share their experience with
over 2000 participants, all of whom were senior technology and management
staff of game companies from China and abroad. However, speaking of the second
CGDC, which is to be held this year, experts hold that it will outperform the
last one in both scale and influence.

According to the first press conference of the CGDC 2009, which was held
on March 16, 2009, this international conference of game R&D, which is to be
held along with ChinaJoy, is hosted to promote technological exchange and
cooperation between China and foreign countries in game development. With a
focus on sharing of experience, presenting of latest technology and discussion
of future trends in technology, the conference is expected to further
highlight the prosperity of China's game industry, especially against the
background of an international economic crisis.
Present at this press conference were officials from the authorities,
General Administration of Press and Publication of the People's Republic of
China (directly in charge of the game industry especially in content
censorship), as well as executives from some world-renowned game companies
like Shanda, Perfect World and Kingsoft, who are all members of the
conference's Advisory Board. Over 100 reporters came and covered the
conference.
Mr. Kou Xiaowei, Deputy Director of the Technology and Digital Publication
Department of the General Administration of Press and Publication of P.R.
China, spoke on behalf of the government authorities: "China's game industry,
has grown rapidly and steadily, now boasting more than 200 self-developed
games and an industry worth over 18 billion RMB in 2008. However, we should
not be blind to our disadvantages. Only by constantly improving ourselves will
the industry grow even further. In fact, CGDC is held for the area in the
industry which needs support most badly -- technology. By strengthening our
technology, this conference will greatly contribute to the development of our
games, exchange between Chinese companies and foreign companies, and the
competitiveness of these Chinese companies in the international market.
Therefore, we take CGDC as an important part of our pledge to better serve the
industry and would give full support and guidance. We sincerely hope that it
will become as successful as ChinaJoy."
Mr. Han Zhihai, Deputy Secretary General of the CGDC Organizing Committee,
briefed the media about the preparation of the event. After several months of
preparation, this year's conference program of 3 days and 47 topics for the
general sessions have already been finalized. The Organizing Committee is
currently soliciting speeches from game developers around the world. "Though
the printed-out conference program and topics are just a few pages, they are
the final valuable results of about 600 suggestions from game companies that
our advisors helped us collect from their game development teams, and numerous
conference call and meetings of the Advisory Board and members of the
Secretariat and three months of lengthy discussion," Mr. Han said. As an
international technology conference focusing on China, CGDC, from the first
day of its preparation, has attracted global attention. The Organizing
Committee greatly appreciates the hard work of every member of the Advisory
Board, as well as the companies they are from: all of them are technology
experts from 28 top game companies of China and the world, such as Nintendo,
SCEI, Microsoft, EA, Blizzard, UBI, THQ, NHN, Shanda, Giant, Netease, Tencent,
Perfect World, Kingsoft etc. It is through their participation that the topics
this year may better address the common problems faced by game developers at
present, thus enabling the communication and exchange via CGDC to be more
effective.
Mr. Yu Jun, IDG Senior Vice President (Asia and China), noted in his
speech that "we were great partners with Howell in the first CGDC, so this
year we've decided to join our hands again to hold this international event."
Based on China's fast growing on-line game industry and characterized by
the country's tradition of oriental culture, CGDC has, since the first day of
preparation, attracted attention and partnerships from various game
associations and industrial agencies abroad. The Organizing Committee has
already entered into strategic partnerships with LOGIN and IGDA, and game
associations from other countries, like South Korea and Japan, have also
showed their intention of cooperation. As experts at the press conference
commented, with participation of technology icons of world-renowned game
companies, CGDC can maintain both its Chinese characteristic and international
influence.
According to the press conference, the CGDC 2009, which will be a
technology conference held during ChinaJoy, will also see CGBC, display of
Development Tool & Middleware Area and a B2B Area side by side in the same
venue. This combination presents a precious opportunity for businessmen and
developers of the game industry. As Mr. Han noted, "There has been no event in
China that can combine both business and technology. However, for companies
coming to Shanghai this July, they will get the double value from both
business events at ChinaJoy and technologies discussions at CGDC."
Some experts hold that in fact, the greatest advantage of CGDC lies in the
fact that it was built on the right timing with ChinaJoy. With years of
success, ChinaJoy has already become a key industrial event for business and
operation professionals worldwide. CGDC, which was held in close relation to
ChinaJoy, will greatly benefit from its brand name and resources, thus quickly
growing into an influential conference in the R&D area.
In fact, according to statistics from the hosts, CGDC has already become
the top one of its kind in China, in the quantity and quality of participants
and influence of speakers. As Mr. Han said, "Participants can get real
opportunities for learning, exchange and business, this is why professionals
and experts from home and abroad are all coming to CGDC. We will be welcoming
businessmen and technology professionals from around the world in July."
Reporters of news, IT, technology and the game industry from over 100 media
agencies and companies will cover the conference
