IVANS Launches NetGuardian to Help Protect Healthcare Providers and Insurance Agencies Against Online Threats

Posted on: Wednesday, 6 July 2005, 12:00 CDT

IVANS, Inc., a leading provider of networking and software solutions for the healthcare and insurance industries, today announced the release of IVANS NetGuardian(TM), a managed online security solution designed to be the first line of defense for healthcare providers and insurance agencies.

The cost of cybercrime was $17.5 billion in 2004, an all-time high and a 30 percent increase versus 2003. As the number and frequency of online attacks increase, and larger companies become more adept at managing security, smaller businesses will become more vulnerable. But staying on top of the latest threats and updates is not always easy for smaller organizations with limited IT staffs and budgets. Recent IVANS surveys indicate that more than 85 percent of healthcare providers and insurance agents are concerned about viruses, and 50 percent are worried about hackers.

"Although smaller businesses have not been directly attacked as frequently in the past, they are affected by larger attacks such as virus outbreaks and phishing schemes," says T.C. Kaiser, group vice president, offering management and development, IVANS. "Additionally, as larger companies shore up their online defenses, smaller companies are going to look more tempting to cybercriminals."

IVANS NetGuardian provides a fully managed network security solution for healthcare providers and insurance agents. It integrates anti-virus, anti-spyware, stateful firewall and intrusion-prevention capabilities in one solution and arrives fully configured and ready to install with access to free tele-installation support. It's monitored 24/7 and updated automatically, so companies are protected against the latest threats.

NetGuardian is designed as part of an overall small-business security solution, which, in addition to software and hardware solutions, should include a company-wide security policy incorporating user authentication, password management, access controls, physical security, as well as back-up and restoration plans. To help small businesses assess the state of their network security, IVANS is offering a free online security quiz, as well as tips on improving security, at www.ivans.com/netguardian.
