Leading Vendor Offers Dynamic Inspection(TM), Filtering 96 Percent of Web Traffic Currently Uncategorized

TORONTO and IRVINE, Texas, March 24 /PRNewswire/ — BorderWare Technologies Inc. (www.borderware.com), the global leader in platform-based email, web, secure content and data loss prevention security solutions, today announced the availability of BorderWare Dynamic Inspection(TM). The new offering from BorderWare addresses the limitations and holes left by the outdated URL filtering solutions in securing all information entering a network. Currently, there are over one trillion websites or URL indexed and categorization databases listed between 30-60 million, leaving 96 percent of the web uncategorized. BorderWare Dynamic Inspection performs real-time examination and analysis of all webpage content as it enters an organization’s network without the false positives that URL categorization is prone to, offering for the first time 100 percent coverage.

“URL filtering has been good for identifying a small subset of popular and known web sites, but as the Web has grown exponentially and security threats have gotten more sophisticated, the methodology isn’t scalable enough on its own to keep up with the Web,” said Shawn Eldridge, vice president of products, BorderWare Technologies. “Dynamic Inspection was created to address the limitations of URL filtering and ensure that the content organizations need in order to conduct normal business makes it through the system, while protecting the overall network in a manner that is more consistent with the evolution of the Web.”

BorderWare Dynamic Inspection is not based on a compiled database, which can produce false positives due to sites changing and the need for daily administrative attention, but rather is a real-time engine performing content filtering for every webpage along with URL categorization and anti-malware. By using advanced analysis in conjunction with policies set by an organization, Dynamic Inspection is able to evaluate each webpage within a site, before it enters an organizations network, instead of blocking entire sites based on generic terms in the URL or content that may falsely identify threat.

“Through our research, we found that URL filtering categorizes 35 million web sites and that the average business identifies nine percent above and beyond those categorizes, leaving a significant security gap. We realized that depending on the number of Web users in an organization, a nine percent gap in coverage or categorized sites can represent a serious security risk,” said Eldridge.

Combined with BorderWare WebPermit, which offers acceptable use and access control features, and the network enhancing solution, BorderWare TrafficAccelerator, the BorderWare Security Platform’s unified web, email and security appliance ensures all elements of security are covered.

BorderWare Dynamic Inspection is currently available and is offered in multiple languages. For more information visit www.borderware.com.
