Granted patent extends the advancement of EuclidVision(TM), a revolutionary video compression technology for consumer and commercial applications

CONCORD, Mass., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Euclid Discoveries, a leading developer of video compression technologies, today announced it has been awarded another patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent is the 7th in a series of patent grants awarded to Euclid in the past several months.

The new patent (U.S. Patent No. 7,508,990) includes 21 claims of technology innovation. These claims provide for the incorporation of new forms of Principal Component Analysis and for more advanced normalization techniques for object recognition and local deformation.

The patent is the 7th in a series that the company has received for "an apparatus and method for processing video data". The first patent, granted in 2007, included ten foundation claims for analyzing, encoding, decoding, and synthesizing video signals. These claims form the cornerstone of Euclid's next-generation video processing and compression technology. The subsequent patents add 97 additional claims that extend the technology's modeling, processing methods and applications.

In addition to the granted patents, the company also has a number of patent applications in process with the U.S. Patent Office, the International Patent Cooperation Union, and a number of individual country patent offices around the world.

Euclid Discoveries' technology patents provide for a new and exciting proprietary video processing system. "By applying Computer Vision and Image Understanding techniques to the encoding of video data, we are defining a new means to achieve greater compression levels while maintaining visual quality," said Dr. Nigel Lee, Euclid Discoveries' Chief Algorithmic Engineer.

Bob Werner, Euclid Discoveries' President and co-founder said, "We now have more than 100 claims under protection from the U.S. Patent Office. In addition, we have filed for the same protection in over 100 countries around the world." Mr. Werner emphasized the importance placed by the company on the ownership and protection of their technology advancements. "This patent is another step toward our goal of securing the leadership position in video compression, storage, archival, and search technology," he added.
