Cassatt Adds Support for Parallels Virtuozzo Containers, Helping Internal Clouds Use Existing, Diverse Virtual and Physical Data Center Resources

Cassatt Active Response 5.3 Software Delivers Smarter Policy Control over Servers and Helps Companies Start on Path to Lower Costs and Increased Flexibility with Cloud-Style Computing

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Cassatt(R) Corporation, a leader in providing software to make data centers more efficient and agile, today broadened its support for virtualization technologies to include Parallels Virtuozzo Containers, now generally available as part of the new 5.3 version of Cassatt Active Response. Enterprise customers can now more easily deliver internal cloud computing using the heterogeneous virtual and physical IT resources that they already have inside their data centers. The update also adds smarter policy control in failure scenarios for physical servers.

While cloud computing offers great promise in IT utilization and efficiency, many companies will not entrust their enterprise applications to external service providers. Cassatt Active Response provides customers with the automation and control software needed to implement cloud-style computing environments using the systems that already exist inside their own firewalls. Cassatt delivers the same operational efficiency, fault tolerance, and energy savings promised by external clouds, but without the worries over security, compliance, lack of control, or the costs or delays required to change or replace their current applications.

Cassatt previously supported management and control of virtualization technology from VMware and Citrix, and is targeting support for Microsoft Hyper-V next. With the addition of support for Parallels Virtuozzo Containers OS-level virtualization solutions, Cassatt Active Response can help improve data center management for hosting providers and other enterprises taking advantage of Parallels' technology.

In addition, the new Parallels Virtuozzo Containers support provides an automation and control solution for data centers with multiple virtualization technologies. According to data from Cassatt's forthcoming second annual data center trends survey, over two-thirds of IT organizations either already have more than one virtualization technology deployed or expect that to be the case over time.

The Cassatt Active Response 5.3 release also delivered improved automated policy control over physical servers. In the new version, customers can set more granular, application-specific policies to set shutdown timing for servers that applications are no longer using. In addition, if servers fail to follow a customer's shut-down policies, the Cassatt software can now either attempt additional ways to power off the equipment or leave it running for later administrator inspection. The smarter policies - added as a result of customer requests - mean less manual effort to manage physical servers, enabling customers to keep operating expenses to a minimum.

Today's update is a follow-up to Cassatt's November 2008 announcement of new technology and service offerings to help customers implement cloud-style computing environments inside the firewalls of their data centers using their existing systems, without having to modify their current hardware or software.

Pricing and Availability

The 5.3 release of Cassatt Active Response, Standard Edition, Premium Edition, and Data Center Edition is available now. Pricing for each edition in the Cassatt Active Response product line remains the same and includes the newly added technology support. Cassatt Active Response, Standard Edition, starts at $200 per managed machine. Cassatt Active Response, Premium Edition, starts at $1,250 per managed machine. Cassatt Active Response, Data Center Edition, starts at $2,500 per managed machine.

The Cassatt Active Profiling Service is priced based upon the number of servers to be profiled, the number of days of profiling, plus the cost of professional services personnel. The minimum starting point is profiling 150 servers for 30 days, plus one consultant, which starts at $40,500.
