Nixle Communication Platform Rapidly Picking up Speed at 2009 Annual Police Executive Research Forum in Washington, D.C.

Posted on: Friday, 27 March 2009, 13:07 CDT

WASHINGTON, March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Nixle, LLC, an information and technology company, is one of four select sponsors of the 2009 Police Executive Research Forum's (PERF) annual meeting in Washington, D.C., held March 26-27. The annual meeting hosts the nation's top 200 law enforcement executives from the largest cities in the country. The conference gives these executives the opportunity to explore progressive ways to improve policing public policy issues in their communities.

"PERF thanks Nixle for its support for our 2009 Annual Meeting, and we look forward to learning more about Nixle's efforts to help police agencies communicate with their local residents," said PERF Executive Director Chuck Wexler.

"I am extremely familiar with the need for police departments and other public services to be able to communicate with the community at large. So much more can be accomplished if we work smarter, not harder," said Dave Mitchell, a core faculty member of the Johns Hopkins University Public Safety Executive Leadership Program. "Calmness is contagious. What often incites panic is the lack of information or the wrong information being disseminated."

Nixle offers the first free, standardized, secure and certified communication platform for local police departments, municipalities and their agencies to connect with residents nationwide. It was built exclusively to provide secure and reliable communications. Its authenticated service connects police departments, municipal agencies and community organizations to residents in real time, delivering information that is geographically targeted and relevant. Consumers immediately receive information via SMS messages, e-mail and Web access.

"Considering the increasing importance of law enforcement issues, we are honored to be one of the sponsors for an organization made up of the nation's top law enforcement Commissioners and Chiefs," said Craig Mitnick, the founder and CEO of Nixle. "We could never have imagined the overwhelming interest and response from the most respected law enforcement officials in the nation."

Nixle uses a similar model as other popular social networking applications, but adds the security that is critical to ensure information received by users is trusted and authentic.

"I was at ground zero after towers came down on 9/11. There was no communication, no way to decipher what was real and what wasn't. Ground zero was a technical blackout," said Kevin Flanagan, a director at Kroll Security and a former New York Police Department member. "NYPD uses a system similar to Nixle. However, the difference with Nixle is that it uses a secure and authenticated platform."

About NixleNixle is a community information service provider built exclusively to provide secure and reliable communications. Nixle has secured a partnership with Nlets (the International Justice and Public Safety Network), allowing local police departments nationwide to send immediate alerts and advisories. Privately funded Nixle, which has offices in New Jersey and California, is free to all governments, their agencies and organizations, nongovernmental organizations and consumers.
