Google is working on technology that would let the Internet giant offer a new service to grow its television-ad brokering business to You Tube and video on other websites, according to reports published by The Wall Street Journal.

Michael Steib, Google’s director of television ads, said the company is working on technology that would give advertisers the ability to buy ads across Google TV, YouTube, and other websites through the same interface. The service is called Google TV Ads Online.

Google is currently testing the service with a small group of advertisers. The Wall Street Journal reports the service will likely be introduced in the coming months.

The newspaper reports that Google was hoping the new service would make it easier for bigger brand advertisers to spend across both traditional and online media. The company makes 97 percent of its revenue from online advertising.

The Journal said that for the new effort to work You Tube needs to secure longer-form video like television shows and movies.

Google’s move comes as more and more people are watching television online.

Google dropped another advertising initiative, its Print Ads program, earlier this year in an attempt to auction off space in newspapers to bargain-seeking advertisers.

The Internet Company also announced it was getting out of the broadcast radio advertising business in a move that was expected to result in the Internet powerhouse shedding about 40 workers during the downturn in the economy.
