(Nasdaq: PTEC), the leader in PC 3.0(TM) products, services and embedded technologies, today announced that it will demonstrate the next-generation of Phoenix Firmbase, a run-time operating environment that supports the operation of firmware applications independent from the foreground operating system. Also at ESC Silicon Valley 2009 in San Jose, from March 31 to April 2, Phoenix will offer demos of its quick boot platform optimized for Embedded BIOS(R) firmware that can start a system in less than 100 milliseconds, and HyperSpace, an instant-on, always connected operating environment for netbooks and laptops, that can run independently or alongside Windows. Demonstrations will take place in Phoenix’s Booth 439.

Phoenix Firmbase runs outside of the foreground OS even if the main operating system is disabled, providing system developers with significant advantages in developing firmware-based applications for security, high availability, provisioning and other embedded capabilities. Demonstrations will showcase how Phoenix Firmbase applications can dramatically improve system availability by monitoring system performance, capturing key events or changes, alerting systems managers and performing pre-defined functions to correct or prevent system errors.

Attendees will have the option to control server loads that mimic a denial-of-service attack and overload a 4U server in a 19″ rack then watch as Phoenix’s OS Monitor, a part of Phoenix Firmbase Technology, detects the load condition and alerts IT staff with email messages to an iPhone and SNMP alerts via browser.

A second interactive demonstration will show Phoenix Firmbase at work rescuing a set top box, which are often subject to failure from harsh environmental conditions and demands from a long field life. A heat lamp will simulate extreme temperature changes while attendees will witness Phoenix’s Hardware Monitor, a part of Phoenix Firmbase, note the change and alert IT staff with iPhone email messages and SNMP alerts via browser. This self-detection of hardware degradation enables IT staff to prevent service failures or replace aging equipment ahead of a hardware breakdown.

Visitors to the Phoenix booth will also see HyperSpace for ARM-based netbooks, the leading instant-on, always connecting, all day computing environment that provides maximum performance for netbook users and gives mobile PC users the options of instant access to the applications they use most without the downtime or battery drain of Windows.
