Speakeasy expands voice and data capability to connect directly to IP PBX through Digium’s Asterisk(R) and Switchvox(R) telephony products

SEATTLE, April 2 /PRNewswire/ — Speakeasy (www.speakeasy.net), a Best Buy company (NYSE: BBY), has added Digium, the Asterisk(R) Company, to its growing portfolio of partners certified interoperable with Speakeasy’s expanded SIP Trunking (Session Initiation Protocol) integrated voice and data services.

Speakeasy further expands its SIP Trunking integration of voice and data services to reach an even larger small-midsized business market with the certification of Digium’s Switchvox(R) SMB and Switchvox SOHO IP PBXs and AsteriskNOW open source telephony platform. With SIP Trunking, the benefits of Speakeasy VoIP service are expanded and can now be integrated with almost any existing Key system, PBX or IP PBX infrastructure, making it simpler than ever to take advantage of the cost savings and flexibility of Speakeasy’s Integrated Voice service.

“We are excited to certify Digium for our expanded SIP trunking services,” said Bruce Chatterley, Speakeasy president and CEO. “By certifying Digium’s Switchvox and AsteriskNOW offerings, we are working together to provide solutions for small business customers to upgrade their telecom infrastructures regardless of their legacy voice and data systems.”

Speakeasy’s hardware vendor program is designed to provide integrated voice and data solutions to meet the diverse needs of any small business, no matter what telecom infrastructure they currently have in place. In addition to its integrated solutions, Speakeasy also offers a full portfolio of hosted solutions, delivering the advantages of flexibility and choice for small businesses. Digium is one of the first IP PBX manufacturers to be certified with Speakeasy. Speakeasy can deliver its SIP trunking service directly to Digium’s Asterisk telephony hardware products.

“With its reputation for outstanding customer service, high-quality products and experience in the small to midsized business market, it’s great news to receive Speakeasy’s compatibility certification for Switchvox and AsteriskNOW,” said Bill Miller, vice president of product management at Digium. “Offerings such as Speakeasy’s SIP Trunks are important to our channel and to customers.”

With Speakeasy’s Integrated Voice, available bandwidth is automatically allocated to data transmission, such as e-mail and general web use, when calls are not in use. This optimizes the customer’s network utilization. In addition, Digium offers a G.729 module that can free up even more data bandwidth by further compressing voice traffic.

Speakeasy is poised to take advantage of future growth in the VoIP market. According to Dell ‘Oro research, IP lines are anticipated to grow from slightly less than 20 percent of total lines shipped to small-midsize companies in 2006, to 60 percent in 2011, including 1.2 million SIP users by 2012.
