Posted on: Friday, 3 April 2009, 12:08 CDT

High-tech, high-touch online education option now available to middle school students throughout Arizona

LAKE HAVASU, Ariz., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Lake Havasu Unified School District announced today it is expanding Havasuonline, the online program of its Performing Plus high school, to include middle school students, grades six through eight. The expansion is being spurred by the growing interest in the online school, which is designed to help each student succeed in its academically rigorous program through the individual support and assistance of the school's highly qualified teachers and staff.

"We continue to experience a growing demand for our online program because of our strong track record of student success," said Program Manager Dodie Gildea. "We are excited to build upon the success of our online high school program by extending it to middle school students. This will meet a clear need identified by many of our parents."

Havasuonline is a public, tuition-free online school which is currently open to Arizona students in grades 9 - 12. Middle school students, grades 6-8, will be eligible to enroll beginning with the 2009-10 school year. The school takes a high-tech, high-touch approach to education that begins with a high-quality, state-aligned curriculum, supported by experienced, state-certified teachers, education advisors and counselors. Because all classes are conducted online, Havasuonline offers use of a free laptop to all full-time students who request one for the duration of their active enrollment. The school also provides any required textbooks.

The award-winning curriculum at Havasuonline includes core courses found in a traditional high school setting, including math, science and English, as well as a wide range of electives including six World Languages, more than 20 Advanced Placement courses, and high-tech classes such as digital video production, game design, and Java Scripting.

Arizona students can enroll tuition-free either full-time or part-time at Havasuonline for the upcoming 2009-10 school year, which begins fall 2009. Students outside of Arizona may also enroll at Havasuonline on a tuition basis.
