Two-Day Conference Draws Visionary Leaders from Application Development Community

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- SDForum, Silicon Valley's leading source of information and education in the technology community, today announced Shaping the New Age of Application Development Conference, a two-day event to be held April 17-18, 2009 at The Tech Mart in Santa Clara, Calif.

Keynote addresses will be delivered by luminaries David Chappell, Principal at Chappell & Associates, and James Staten, Principal Analyst of IT Infrastructure and Operations at Forrester Research and an expert on cloud computing.

"Forrester forecasts the market for application software to increase six-fold between 1995 and 2010 to $180.6 billion and I expect a lot of this development to shift onto cloud platforms that enable faster innovation and new degrees of freedom and scalability," said James Staten, Principal Analyst at Forrester Research. "I am looking forward to participating in SDForum's 'Shaping the New Age of Application Development' event and helping Silicon Valley companies drive this new era for development. It is an exciting time in this field as applications are becoming so personal and part of our every day lives, no matter where we are or what we are doing."

"There is a quiet surge of new generation development tools designed for today's emerging application platforms. The bottoms-up retooling of the application landscape will be one of the next growth markets," said Christine Crandell, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Business Development and Alliances and Chief Marketing Officer at Egenera. "With this conference, SDForum fosters entrepreneurship by bringing together industry leaders, developers and application providers to discuss how this market can evolve and I am pleased to be part of this event."

The new age in application development is driven by a growing number of innovative technology platforms, such as cloud computing. Today developers have a variety of new tools, platforms and methodologies, and the focus is shifting to applications with collaboration and analytics at the core being built from the ground up to easily accommodate elastic demand, community driven functionality and pay-per-use models.

"New application software is a primary force for innovation," said David Chappell, Principal of Chappell & Associates. "And much of it will run in the cloud. I'm excited to participate in SDForum's development conference this year. I look forward to providing a perspective on both technical and business issues around cloud platforms today."

"SDForum's mission has always been to provide an unbiased source of information and insight to the tech community," said Susan Lucas-Conwell, CEO of SDForum. "Today's application development climate is providing a wide range of new opportunities for developers and we wanted to create an event that brought developers, visionaries, analysts and venture capitalists together for a comprehensive discussion on where the market is now, where it is going and how to use the tools that are available."
