WSJ: Steve Jobs Still Involved With Apple Decisions

Sources say Chief Executive of Apple, Steve Jobs, has remained closely involved in key aspects of the company’s operation, despite being on medical leave for more than three months, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

The newspaper said in a story on its website that Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook runs most of the daily operations while Jobs continues to work on the company's most important strategies and products from home.

According to those familiar with the matter, Jobs regularly reviews products and product plans, and was particularly involved in the user interface of the new iPhone operating system that Apple unveiled last month.

Citing people with knowledge of the company's strategy, the Journal said Apple’s co-founder is considered the company's creative leader and is always involved in the development of future projects.

The 54 year-old Jobs was treated for a rare form of pancreatic cancer in 2004 and was forced to take a medical leave in early January.

However, he said he would return in June and would still remain involved in "major strategic decisions while I am out."

The Journal report cited that he had made no public appearances or statements since then and it has been unclear just how involved he continued to be.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling told the Journal: "Steve continues to look forward to returning to Apple at the end of June."

Speculation over Jobs’ health condition has caused a drop in Apple stock since last summer, when his illness was first reported.

Jobs did not respond to the Wall Street Journals’ requests for comment.
