Company Partners with Singapore Government to Create Competitive Advantage through Cloud Adoption

SINGAPORE, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Platform Computing, the leader in grid and cloud computing software, today announced plans to open a Cloud Innovation Centre (CIC) in Singapore, a facility that will provide access to free cloud software, technical consultants and training programs to Singapore-based companies. Located at Platform Computing Singapore and due to open in May, the CIC's goal is to educate enterprises, government organizations, software vendors and start-ups about cloud technology and encourage the creation of new products and services based on this rapidly emerging computing paradigm.

An industry pioneer in grid technology and longtime leader in High Performance Computing (HPC) management software, Platform is one of the leading vendors driving the adoption of cloud computing today. The CIC is a joint initiative between Platform and the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore, a government organization committed to creating a competitive innovation-rich environment in Singapore for consumers and business. IDA selected Platform due to the company's leadership in grid and cloud computing. Platform is also the cloud infrastructure software vendor powering Alatum, the major Grid Service Provider supported by the government in Singapore. Platform's technology provides organizations with competitive advantage by enabling access to significant IT resources and applications through the cloud, thus greatly reducing the costs of owning and operating these resources in house.

"With more than 16 years of market leadership, Platform has delivered solutions that are used by companies around the world to power large clusters and grids. Platform brings this experience to our work with IDA and its partners, giving Singapore organizations access to state-of-the-art cloud computing technology that addresses today's business challenges," said Songnian Zhou, CEO, Platform Computing. "As the evolution from grid to cloud begins to take place, the CIC will deliver best-in-class technology and technical expertise to organizations looking to adopt cloud computing."

"The Cloud Innovation Centre will help enterprises develop their private clouds. Private clouds are critical in these early days to promote adoption among businesses, which may have concerns about putting their operations in public clouds," said Leong Keng Thai, IDA Deputy Chief Executive and Director-General (Telecoms and Post). "We hope to have additional partners like Platform Computing work with us so that more enterprises recognize the benefits of cloud computing."

The CIC will provide a comprehensive and integrated program to educate participants on this next-generation of IT though workshops, technical consulting and free access to computing resources and software for performing proof of concept and pilot trials. Qualified start-ups will also get access to Platform's leading suite of grid and cloud software solutions. The CIC will be reaching out to over 600 IT managers, decision makers and engineers over the next three years to educate and train Singapore business on the use and benefits of cloud computing. Platform Computing's Singapore facility is the hub of activity for the company within the Asia Pacific region where the company operates a substantial research and development center.
