According to Williampaid.com, a new online resource for renters, interactions
with roommates can be tougher to deal with than any college course. College
students from across the country and world are thrust into shared living
arrangements, with friends or with strangers.
“College students face significant social and academic pressures. When it
comes to roommates, issues and conflicts are certainly not uncommon,” says

disagreements, chore responsibilities, and other bill payments. Communication
is the cornerstone of a positive roommate experience.”
William Paid spokesperson Dr. Fishbein suggests that MTV College Life cast
members incorporate F.R.I.E.N.D. in order to avoid roommate conflicts:
-- First seek to understand then to be understood. One of the "seven
habits" developed by Steven Covey, good roommates "get it" before they
"dish it".
-- Respect one another for who you are, how you think, and what you do.
-- Inhibit your reaction to conflict in order to effectively reach
resolution. Use empathy to see things through your roommate's eyes,
hear from their ears, walk in their shoes.
-- Express expectations upfront. Discuss potential areas of conflict
early -- like rent or utility bill payments, chore responsibilities,
room temperature -- and set mutually acceptable standards.
-- Negotiate. Conflicts and disagreements will arise. Try to negotiate
win-win scenarios so that each roommate feels like they give a little
to get a little.
-- Don't sweat the small stuff or cry over spilled milk. Look beyond
little issues.
