Jul. 6--TOKYO -- Semiconductor maker NEC Electronics Corp. said Wednesday it now expects a group net loss of 7 billion yen instead of an earlier projected profit of 500 million yen for the April-September first half of fiscal 2005.
Sales for the six months are now estimated at 315 billion yen against an earlier projection of 340 billion as demand was slack for its mainstay system large-scale integrated circuit chips for cellular phones and as semiconductor demand in general hit bottom in the April-June quarter, the firm said.
For the whole of fiscal 2005, NEC Electronics revised its group net profit projection downward to 5.5 billion yen from an earlier 13 billion yen. Sales are now expected to total 695 billion yen, against an earlier-projected 720 billion yen.
