Plans For Universal Electric Car Plug Unveiled

Several large automotive and energy corporations have reached an agreement on a universal "plug" that would recharge electric cars, announced German energy company RWE on Sunday.
The three-point, 400-volt plug, which charges electric cars anywhere very quickly, will be made public Monday at the world's largest industrial technology conference in Hanover, Germany.
"A car must be able to be recharged in Italy in exactly the same way as in Denmark, Germany or France," said RWE spokeswoman, Caroline Reichert to the edition of Die Welt available on Monday.
She did not give a specific time for the release of the plug, noting that discussions amid the companies remained ongoing.
The union over the universal plug includes a number of foremost automakers, such as Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, General Motors, Fiat, Toyota and Mitsubishi.
Energy firms also wrapped up in the deal consist of Eon, Vattenfall, EDF, Npower, Endesa and Enel.
Berlin wants one million electric cars to be on the road by 2020. RWE and Daimler commenced a pilot venture for that goal in Berlin last September.
The creation of a universal plug is a huge step in the mass construction of electric cars, Reichert said to Die Welt.
