Clickability Adds Parallel, Energy-Efficient Data Center for Full Redundancy of On Demand Web Content Management

Enterprise and Media Customers Enjoy Unmatched Website Reliability and Unlimited Scalability through SaaS Model

SAN FRANCISCO, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Clickability, Inc., the global leader in on demand Web Content Management (WCM), today announced that it has added a new SAS 70 Type II-Certified data center in order to meet the needs of its growing roster of enterprise and media customers. Set-up and migration to the new, energy-efficient data center in Denver, Colorado, are already complete. Together with Clickability's San Jose-based center, the parallel facilities are the foundation for Clickability's robust back-end infrastructure, which provides the framework for the WCM platform and empowers customers with on demand scalability, security, data storage, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and an industry-leading level of redundant capabilities.

"We focus on the back-end technology so our customers can free up their IT departments and focus on the things that keep their businesses running - innovation, strategic differentiation and issues of compliance, archiving and management," said John Girard, CEO of Clickability. "We're very excited to offer our customers unrivaled availability and peace of mind in knowing that their websites are not tied to one particular facility or geographic area. In addition, we have doubled our already impressive ability to handle event-based spikes in user traffic by distributing it across two data centers that have each been sized to handle 100 percent of peak traffic."

Business Continuity at a Fraction of the Cost

Clickability's co-location data centers are designed for reliability and a fully articulated disaster recovery plan that offer global businesses a high level of business continuity and compliance. Rather than invest in costly storage systems and additional staff to manage complex systems, companies can take advantage of the certified hosting facilities of a Software as a Service (SaaS) provider such as Clickability at a fraction of the cost.

Created on a newly designed network architecture that has no single point of failure, each Clickability data center is built for speed, reliability and security. Clickability uses an "active/active" setup, enabling website publication from both data centers simultaneously. This configuration, unmatched in the industry, goes beyond simple data center infrastructure and would be quite costly for companies to achieve on their own. With both facilities able to run real-time data replication, each center alone can seamlessly assume 100 percent of Clickability's peak-load traffic with no perceptible disruption of service. Sold with an SLA of 99.9 percent uptime, the Clickability platform has achieved 99.99 percent uptime for the last ten months, even as traffic has exceeded the 500M page views a month mark.

Additionally, as part of Clickability's multi-tenant architecture (http://www.clickability.com/platform/infrastructure/Multitenant_Technology.html), all customers share the same hardware infrastructure and the same version or "instance" of Clickability's SaaS-based application. As a result, customers enjoy seamless upgrades, fast release cycles, lower total cost of ownership, and freedom from IT maintenance and hardware expenses.

"The Web plays a pivotal role in business communications and managing a global brand today," said Teddy Chamorro, head of marketing technology at leading financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald. "Therefore, companies cannot afford to have any glitches in website performance. Having the Clickability Web Content Management platform as the foundation of our Web publishing efforts allows us to focus on further developing our online presence with the confidence provided by a strong, redundant technology."

Scalability that Keeps Businesses Running

What's more, Clickability customers can leverage the power of its massive multi-tenant architecture for "just-in-time" scalability (http://www.clickability.com/platform/infrastructure/Scalability.html). Usage-related traffic spikes such as news of natural disasters, new product launches or other events stirring major interest never slow performance or impact revenues. Customer websites do not go down and do not suffer brownouts, whether one person hits the site, or one million. Customers simply access the bandwidth they need, when they need it.

In fact, Clickability's SaaS-based platform has enabled many customers (http://www.clickability.com/customers/success/) to handle surges in traffic effortlessly and avoid the risk of losing page view revenue or potential prospects due to slow performance or downtime. For example:

  • IrishCentral.com

IrishCentral.com was able to withstand a huge onslaught of visitors on March 17, only its third day in existence, when it was the first to report on a tragic celebrity death. While a competing site was brought to a halt for hours, with editors unable to update their reports, Clickability's multi-tenant infrastructure enabled IrishCentral.com to keep up and running - something that is extremely important for any organization, but even more so for a new site just establishing its brand.

  • Las Vegas Review-Journal

When Clark County police orchestrated a massive bust of prostitutes over Super Bowl weekend, the Las Vegas Review-Journal - a site hosted by Clickability - ran police booking photos of all of those arrested on its website. On the Tuesday following the arrests, the paper experienced its highest number of page views in a single day: total views soared close to 900,000, nearly four times the site's normal traffic.

  • Philadelphia Inquirer

Philly.com, website for the Philadelphia Inquirer, scored a home run last October when it climbed to a staggering 5.5 million page views after the city's World Series win. By relying on Clickability's SaaS-based platform, Philly.com was able to withstand traffic nearly four times larger than normal with absolutely no interruption in service.

  • Smithsonian Magazine

When the controversy over Australian cassowaries hit the Yahoo! homepage last October, the Clickability-hosted site of Smithsonian Magazine experienced an unexpected surge in traffic to its article and photographs of the colorful birds. However, the site survived with no ruffled feathers and had more page views in eight hours than in the entire month of August - its best day of traffic ever.

"Green" Multi-Tenant Architecture

Because Clickability's WCM platform is based on a multi-tenant architecture, multiple users leverage the same code and server resources, which results in more efficient code design and higher server utilization. The multi-tenant SaaS model centralizes data center operations, reducing power consumption through equipment density and cooling efficiency. Moreover, due to the stringent customer SLAs of SaaS data centers, Clickability's Denver and San Jose data centers are populated with the newest and most energy-efficient equipment on the market, including blade servers that reduce power consumption.
